God's Grace at the Speech & Debate Club

Praising God.

Tomorrow is a mock tournament in Miami. The boys of the Pembroke Pines Speech and Debate Club are here for their weekly meeting, practicing their speeches for tomorrow.

We always share lunch before club, but today, feeling the pressure of tomorrow's tournament, Peter started club before lunch arrived. They're still in the living room listening to Jeremy's speech.

In God's providence, two of the dads delivered their guys today. Usually the moms come. But the dads came. And stayed. How wonderful for the boys. How wonderful for the club. How wonderful for the dads to see what is going on here. These are new-to-club families who have not participated yet in the NCFCA. How to tell them all what goes on and how needed is the parents' involvement? Well, God brought them today. And I learn that perhaps tomorrow Cal can join us at the tournament itself.

I'm overhearing Peter's coaching. Such grace. Such a good teacher, he is. God bless Him. God has blessed him. God is blessing him. May God keep blessing him with His grace.

Today is a big one. I have thirteen people staying here tonight when we were only four last night. Another debate family that lives across the state will stay. As well as another debater whose parents can't come early enough tomorrow. We have more rooms to clean and beds to make. I woke late, and tired. But I chose to stay calm, to practice abiding in my Strength, Jesus. I took time to read my scripture passages, to sing Psalm 136, to text Susan an idea for an anthem on Give to our God Immortal Praise, to write Hebrews 1:1-3 on the kitchen chalkboard, to input the bulletin for this coming Lord's Day. Then Frank Ortega arrived with his boys. Inviting him to stay, and starting my cleaning, I remembered that we had not cleaned the kitchen. Grace met me soon after I began emptying the dishwasher and we finished by the time the Gums walked in with lunch.

As I was wiping the counters and rejoicing that the dads had showed up today my thoughts went to how hard it is to tell people how valuable is this club work to the kids, even the families. Until the parents see it, how do you sell it? I was rejoicing that, once again, organically, we were serving the Lord in wonderful ways. Peter's heart of service to his fellows, his grace to them, God bringing the Gonzalezes, the Ortegas and the Gums into our lives, well, here we are. May God bless these boys as they are graciously taught. I thought of our own teacher, Chris Ray, who, with vision, sold and sold and taught by doing. I was a newbie once and didn't get the picture, couldn't be too involved. And now there is a club that has grown in my house and I prepare for it gladly every week, facilitating the parents so that they'll do this until they see the value. And God is blessing.

Praise His Name.

I love and thank Him.

Now for some of Mikyoung's mac and cheese! I'm starving.
